The Inclusive Education Task Force brings together Nevada’s school districts and institutions of higher education to promote and apply inclusive practices in higher education settings.  Initially, College Departments of Education are developing curricula to expand inclusive practices, with a focus on best preparing future teachers to meet the needs of Nevada’s increasingly diverse student population.

The goal of the NSHE Inclusive Education Task Force is to promote and apply inclusive practices to higher education settings.  In the first stage of this goal, Colleges, Schools, and Departments of Education will take the lead in developing curricula to support inclusive practices.  The task force will accomplish this through several action steps:

  • Hold workshops for interested NSHE faculty on inclusive education practices
  • Engage faculty in providing students majoring in education with opportunities to adapt professional practices for a diverse population of learners
  • Encourage inclusive practices throughout teacher preparation curricula to promote high quality learning for all
  • Assist faculty in selecting courses within which all students will be exposed to specific content and philosophical discussions on inclusive education
  • Provide assistance to general and special education faculty in developing learning communities to support inclusive education
